But one of them watched their brother get deported. Another, in home construction, lost most of his workforce. They’re all amazed that Trump would deport illegal immigrants who were otherwise law-abiding and trying to make a living. Some of these voters said they’ll be staying home. Some are gonna vote for Talarico.
On one hand, you gotta wonder what these voters were thinking. Of course Trump would see his election as a mandate for mass deportations of all illegal immigrants. It’s what he said he would do.
But as a fairly moderate Democrat, I’m amazed that my party has totally abandoned the common-sense position they once had, manifested in the 2013 border bill. We’ve lost our minds on the issue, and because of that lost voters who want the most basic security and prosperity.
