You will see that a great many commenters here were successfully demoralized Yuri Bezmenov style. Get a hold of yourselves.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Well, the election turned out exactly as I predicted it would. The Republicans had their asses stapled to their foreheads. It was a smack-down. And rightly so. The Republicans sucked big time. They had the Legislature and the Executive and the back stabbing bastards couldn't even pass the SAVE Act.

I live in Utah and Salt Lake County just elected an effeminate transgender loving queer Democrat in Ben McAdams to the House. He got 71% of the vote. 71 PERCENT! In Utah! Why? Because people are pissed off that the Republicans did nothing during the two years of power. Nothing but start and wage another war.

Was there fraud in this election? Of course. I also believe that many 2024 Trump voters were pissed and voted Democrat. The extremely unpopular war against Iran and the subsequent spike in fuel, food prices and inflation didn't help the Republicans either.

Here's the problem with Americans. Every two years they swing the pendulum back and forth between two failed and defunct political parties who have long since abandoned any desire to do right by the American people. The American people are stuck in a really bad place. 3rd party candidates get no press attention. Write in candidates never get more than a thousand or two votes. So, to show their disdain for the hypocritical Republicans they swing back to the socialist Democrats. Back and forth we go, over and over and over again. The system is hopelessly corrupted, a colossal failure. The Federal government has lost its authority and confidence of the American people and its utter failure is only a matter of time. For when the governor loses the confidence of the governed they no longer have any authority to actually govern.

Keep up the great writing Mr. Kunstler. We need you.

So basically the consensus was to vote to screw themselves over even more because of gas prices and Trump.

RobSan's avatar

IGNORANCE on steroids,"I'll punish Trump by voting for idiots who cannot, will not & actually have no desire to improve things for me."

PapayaSF's avatar

“I don’t like high gas prices, so I’ll vote for the party that hates drilling, closes refineries, raises taxes, and wants to ban gas cars.”

P. Robert Thorson's avatar

The Red vs. Blue propaganda technique has a lot of staying power. My view has changed from "Voting doesn't matter" to "Let's hope and pray voting doesn't matter".

Kathy Christian's avatar

Yeah, that'll show 'em!

MarshaLouise's avatar

Seems as if Cank sees many voters thinking like that. We don’t.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Absolutely. The general voter doesn't care about Iran or Israel. They care about their pocketbooks. Period. There is no where for angry voters to turn when their party and candidates betray them so they turn to the enemy and elect them as a punishment to their candidates who betrayed them.

I do agree with our host, however. Voter fraud is alive and well. They turned Texas, Kansas, Mississippi and part of Utah blue.

Kathy Christian's avatar

But don't they realize that the enemy will punish them, too? Or are they hoping to offset some of that punishment onto another party?

Godfrey's avatar

If you don't think Trump's unprovoked, illegal war on Iran, ONLY to serve his controllers in Israel...

AND its ramifications such as price spikes on gas and diesel, etc... was the main reason the GOP got spanked...

I think you are a bit under-informed, or a bit naive. No offense.

Valerie Leger's avatar

I hear a lot of whining, they didn’t do anything for me. Our states are suppose to take care of our needs, what did they do for you. The president is suppose to handle foreign affairs and economics, Trump was doing that with many unspoken successes. We would be totally encircled by China now. He kicked them out Of the Panama Canal, kicked them out of Venezuela where China and Russia were exploiting the minerals and oil as well as using these countries to pass drugs through cartels; reduced sinificantly the influx of Fentanyl into US; made a deal with Greenland to build a base up there to protect our country on the Northern front which was so critical. Also the area he wants to build an iron dome. He was going to do something more in Cuba to secure our southern position but thats when suddenly he diverted to Iran. I don’t know what or who made him deviate from his plan but thats when his momentum got diverted. I think someone got in his ear. He settled over nine conflicts in other countries. Ive left out some stuff but my point is All THIS MATTERS to you ,me , the US. Economically he has been working to bring manufacturing back and get people to invest back in US that is the only way back to prosperity.

Bonnie's avatar

I get being pissed. But turning around and voting in the demons is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Utterly stupid.

Americans, including you, are going to be so fucked under democrat rule. They don't know what's coming their way yet. They seem to think that it's going to be all sunshine and lollipops. Americans are looking at a whole lot of financial hardship under democrats, with the resurgence of race-based everything and the further promotion of transgendering their kids. Maybe there's company out there that makes prefabricated gulag cells. You could order one and customize it.

MarshaLouise's avatar

You’re quite right about the Republican Congress doing nothing with their two years of power and the ppl are pissed off, but, and trust me on this, your Mr McAdams’ vote count needs a good second look, and it will come. Those inflated numbers can only be believed by gullible people who create reasons for discouraging disappointment. Could any real Trump-believers watch how hard he worked in the last two years and say, “Aw, he didn’t do enough. I’m too angry to vote for him again so I’ll give my vote to the party who’s threatening to undo his hard work and destroy the Constitution.” How likely is that? How likely is the fact of cheating again, this time on a much bigger scale? Cank, watch what happens after EO13848 hits the fan.

Cankerpuss's avatar

I don't doubt that cheating occurred. You'll get no argument from me.

And yet this system is still the best of the worst, warts and all.

MCL's avatar

The pendulum swings between two vote buying scams. The empathy scam(social spending led by the Dems) and the fear scam (defense spending led by the GOP). The overarching goal is the centralization of power in Washington DC. Taxes and inflation extract wealth from the private sector to feed The Blob. The Blob takes care of the brainwashing. This has been in place since the 1950s.

Teresa Cox's avatar

Demoralized no, I see things as they are and have been prior. Learned from experience Sir. We chose frat boys for leaders and a President who thinks we wanted a new ballroom, not lower food and gas prices. A president that thinks he can still win during a war. I live in Ms. and now actually have a socialist senator coming into office. My taxes will increase and with the war on petroleum from their side goodness only knows what the food prices will do. Plus we own 50 acres, will we have to give some to those in need free, maybe for a Muslim Mosque? Will my Medicare costs increase? Certainly! You do not have to be rude Sir, We know how things are.

Rick's avatar

Teresa, calm your anxious little self.

The economic problems we face were brought upon us hard and fast by the Biden Crew/Autopen.

Shutting down energy production. Printing 100's of billions of $ and handing it out like Halloween Candy to grifters and fraudsters. You were comfortable with that. Certainly you never opined how illegal and criminal it was.

What in the damn hell are you talking about. I have a victim of child trans child sacrifice as an example of why I want many of these monsters wiped off the face of the planet. . My only grandchild’s reproductive organs landed in a New York hospital surgery bucket last year at 19. At 20 “he” needs a cane to get around college. Preyed upon by devils in democrat skin suits—an already vaxed damaged and autistic CHILD of 13. I LIVE 1000 miles away with no input. This horror started when Biden squatted in our life. I knew exactly what was going on when I repudiated the democrats and joined trump. During Covid jab time, my own TDS sister hoped I would get a terrible case of Covid for not vaxxing. She texted me this t little nugget WHILE SHE WAS ON HER SECOND CASE OF BAD COVID after jabs up the ying yang. I saw it. I knew I couldn’t trust the GOP but I had no fucking other place to go. So don’t try that patronizing self righteous tone on me like you did Teresa and, frankly kunstler too, Sonny boy. Fuck off.

Rick's avatar

I gather you are the Adult in the family...AND YOU ALLOWED your child trans surgery ? Then frankly YOU are the criminal. Don't scream at me.

The rinos who have controlled the GOP are slowly being voted out. That is a minor victory.

It sounds to me like you expect and wish 1 single President could fix all the problems. Not gunna happen.

And so you keep voting for Democrats I bet. Can fool yourself maybe, but not me.

David Cox's avatar

I assume you told me to "calm myself" because you know how that irritates females? Shows how small minded you are sir. Does not matter at all who caused the economic situation, what matters is that Trump is now in charge and will be blamed. So Trump was going to make it better by handing out 5000 dollar checks to those that voted for him? New elaborate ballrooms, new marine one? How did that better the situation? Just pray Sir and all will be well? Isn't that the way you and others believe. Or better yet, go sit in the corner and await Jesus. Otherwise stop believing you are the only smart one in the room, you most certainly are not. TERESA COX

Rick's avatar

Au contraire.

It DOES matter who caused the economic mess. It took many years and cannot be fixed so quickly.

Regulations, Environmental Studies, Taxes, Green BS, etc.

No one is getting 5000$ checks, but if Democrat Green Globalist policies win the day, you will be expected to pay THEM $5000. And most of that is GRIFT money, not really invested in anything tangible.

You can't have your cake and eat it too - if no one is left to make the cake.

I don't believe I am am the ONLY smart one in the room, but I most certainly AM smarter and better informed than you and your COX.

Kathy Christian's avatar

I never claimed the check because I don't want to be retroactively taxed on it. If they're really giving out checks. And don't worry about the ballroom. When the next democrat president is installed into office, he/she will demolish it at taxpayer expense. That ought to make a lot of democrats happy.

Los Angeles just elected a socialist mayor over Karen Bass. Socialists now control the 2 largest cities in the U.S. with Mamdani in NYC. All they need now is Denver, Chicago, St. Louis and Atlanta.

Kathy Christian's avatar

All those cities are slated for destruction.

Len Penzo's avatar

LA elected "another socialist mayor"? Try another communist mayor. And this one, Raman, is even further left than the radical commie Bass. As a reminder, the newly "elected" mayor was so far behind the second place centrist Spencer Pratt at the end of this summer's primary election night that she was literally caught crying on stage because of her apparent fate. Then yet another statistical miracle happened as Raman received more votes than either Bass or Pratt in the following days as "late" ballots poured in.

There is no voting our way out of this. Once the commies are in power, they can only be forced out by other means.

RobSan's avatar

It's certainly a part of their schemes right now.

Rightly So's avatar

Perhaps America is FINALLY beginning to awaken from the apathetic slumber of the last 40 years? Damn! Obama, himself, TOLD us he was going to "fundamentally change" the USofA. What do you think he meant, especially being the "closet commie" that he is.

It's happening, Robsan. The enemy is NOT at the gate - they are INSIDE, and have been for years now. Yet, Americans chose to ignore it (Much easier to pretend all is well).

NOW, our country has entered into the Fight-For-Its-Life. The question is: WHAT are WE going to do about it?

Cankerpuss's avatar

And yet Los Angeles is still home to 10 million people. NYC is home to 12 million. Most of whom seem to make tons of money to afford the exorbitant real estate and rental prices. Go figure.

wkenn's avatar

It is mind-boggling.

I read/hear how the current average age for first time buyers here is 40.

Does it take this long to acquire the means for a significant down-payment to make the monthly bill affordable? idk

There's much subsidized housing here, a wealth transfer and a government control mechanism rolled into one. This requires the recipients of such largess to keep the power structure in place so they keep their 'benefits'.

Leskunque Lepew's avatar

California, Texas, NY. see a pattern here?

Scipio1776's avatar

Wow! Really. I would call that a silver lining. The execrable Karen Bass deserved firing. Black Democrat voters may begin to realize they have been slitting their own throats as they are replaced by other POC with different agendas. Things can still get worse in LA, but Karen Bass losing is good news!

Cankerpuss's avatar

"Black Democrat voters may begin to realize they have been slitting their own throats"

Nope. Not going to happen. They do not have the ability to think that way. It is genetic, not their fault. Their brains just aren't wired that way.

Kathy Christian's avatar

Black democrat voters will continue to choose leaders who'll give them what they want. Any hardship they suffer for their political choices is offset to other people. They don't even get mad that their kids aren't being taught to read in the schools their taxes fund.

Kathy Christian's avatar

You won't get lower gas or food prices. You won't get affordable housing. You will get a war with Russia with the next democrat president.

Kathy S.'s avatar

Remember how people in Kamala's inner circle were saying, in the fall of 2024, that a nuclear war with Russia was winnable? The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is composed of liberals, but even they moved their famous doomsday clock up to just a few seconds before midnight in the fall of 2024. One of Bobby Kennedy's ads said "A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for nuclear war."

Does nobody remember what a dangerous situation we were in with Biden, who was permitting (directing?) Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia, even taking out several of their strategic bombers?

Sometimes I think most Americans have the situational awareness of a blind and deaf lemming, and the attention span of a gnat. Unfortunately, that is why I wouldn't be surprised if there was NOT significant cheating and instead a majority of Americans just had a toddler-style temper tantrum and voted to shoot themselves in the groin. (They've been shooting themselves in the foot for decades.)

MarshaLouise's avatar

I agree, there was a lot of that “toddler-style temper tantrums”, as we can deduce from commenters here today. Rather sad.

Ask the Russians, 1917-1922.

And these people now are even worse than the Bolsheviks in some ways. At least the Bolsheviks weren't trying to turn little boys into little girls.

Speaking of which, have you noticed how many of the mass shootings here in the past few years have been by transgender young people? Messing with their hormones while their brains are still developing screws their brains up in all kinds of ways, including turning some of them into ultraviolent rage monsters.

Quite so. The Russians saw scholarly Jewish boys suddenly dressed in leather and sporting revolvers.

Another weird thing was AAG Harmeet Dillon’s quite abrupt resignation, whose division in the DOJ oversaw the election monitoring. What’s up with that?

So much weirdness. My Spidey senses are all a tingle.

I think my fellow Texans just did.

Here in Texas, "demoralizing" is watching property taxes under Republican rule climb from $51bn a year in 2015, to $89bn in 2025.

These "bidniss friendly" Republicans and their Democrat counterparts preside over a system that favors noncitizens over those of us who play by the rules.

Texas has bent over backwards to accommodate the uninsured driver and its itinerant migrant worker.

They do so on the backs of legal drivers, with some of the highest insurance rates in the country. Same thing with health coverage for Texas' cheap labor force...Sky high property taxes carry the load so employers don't have to. (In 2024, 69% of childbirths in Texas were on Medicaid.

Texans are watching their costs to simply stay in their homes, or to keep health coverage go up every year.

In the meantime, those of us who live in larger cities see ever expanding health centers, catering to migrant populations, perpetually swallowing up urban acreage. They are villages within a city. All made possible by state and federal funding.

Meanwhile, subsidies for rural hospitals and clinics, that tend to serve legal citizens, continue to dry up.

Even with a Republican governor and legislature, we barely saw a very limited school voucher plan roll out last year.

Electricity rates here are up 46% over the last 10 years. Natural gas for home heating is up 67%... Gasoline is as high here as anywhere.

In the meantime, we watched an anachronistic state level re-criminalization of THC, and a ban on abortions, that sees the Attorney General of Texas himself, showing up in court to contest a woman's plea to terminate her pregnancy.

Texas is California-cating itself. Easy to see why, despite all of the back and forth bluster, California investors love Texas...Endless tax breaks, very high tolerance for slumlord complexes, and a cheap, itinerant labor force. A labor force that comes with homeowner-financed health coverage and zero workplace rights.

The truth is, Texas is a perfect example of a Republican paradise.

When my friends and neighbors complain about the election results, my response is a simple question: "What did you lose?"

I couldn’t agree more. I wonder how many of them just stayed home and didn’t cast a ballot at all—“in protest.” That choice is no different than waving the white flag of surrender and giving tacit agreement to be ruled by whatever insane candidates are running.

Jeff Childers asked today: “Are all Democrats mindless robots? They all vote on autopilot? Vote blue no matter who—even if they are out of the race? Does that pass your smell test?” My answer is Yes, Yes, Yes, and mostly yes. That’s the difference. If conservatives don’t get it through their heads that not participating is participating in the destruction of the country, then we’re all screwed. And then thee are the people whose mantra is “voting for the lesser of two evils is still evil.” That is absurd.

So if you didn’t vote on Tuesday? Shut the hell up. This is your fault. You made the bed and, unfortunately, the rest of us have to lie in it.

MarshaLouise's avatar

Too many cannot see what’s behind that great Cheshire smile on President Trump’s face. We who are tuned in should already know about EO 13848. According to Grok, “This order focuses on foreign interference (intelligence assessment + economic sanctions on foreign persons/entities.” … “The President or DOJ will investigate or prosecute domestic election fraud, voter fraud by U.S. persons, or non-citizen voting…under existing federal criminal statutes and DOJ processes, which do not depend on this order.” There may even be payouts of a million dollars for fraud whistleblowers. But 45 days will take us almost to Christmas and a few weeks before the new Congress is sworn in…then expect a different kind of Hell to erupt, this time led by the current Commander in Chief. Remember this. Wait and pray.

I expect that, if invoked, it will be a nothingburger. Sanctions? I am sure the socialists, communists, and islamists will be quaking in their boots. The Insurrection Act will be the only recourse to what is coming, short of outright civil war. Look to what is happening in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, .. elsewhere in Europe. The Dems and their Red-Green alliance have just executed a coup d'etat. It was only 6 yrs ago that we witnessed another one at the hands of this criminal enterprise. There is something worse than civil war: no civil war. Check out the presentations and writings of Prof. David J. Will do…re: Prof Betz, and you’re more than half right, I believe. Perhaps it will be civil war, but you can bet it’ll be more than sanctions. Something big will happen. The DSA are set to go and Trump will more than meet them. Insurrection Act likely.

"will remain free"

The USA isn't free. You don't even own your property. Try not paying your property taxes and you'll soon learn just how free you truly are. Any people who cannot own their property free and clear from government intrusion is not free. Not at all.

All true, and we're some of the least free people on the planet when it comes to freedom of thought. We're certainly the most propagandized people on the planet.

I don't even know if we are free thinking people anymore. I used to belong to a very conservative religion here in the US State of Utah. Even in that church people have become afraid to say they don't support homosexual marriage or that they don't think women should have the priesthood.

The USA is no longer what we were raised to believe it was. It is a morally and financially bankrupt hulking shell of the nation it used to be. White males are now being replaced by black and brown males or angry tattooed women in positions of leadership all around us.

If there was a better place to go I would go there but there isn't. The rest of the world is not any better.

I was always an outdoorsmen as brought up by my dear and recently deceased father , we just didn't carry firearms , so at 63 I'm trying to reawaken my old" nature boy " nature as it seems like the further away from the population centers I am the more comfortable I am as it has always been .

Browning1911 Man's avatar

A lever gun? For what, to ward off a hostile Indian attack? Look for something scary looking that's black with a red dot or low power scope attached. Nothing better for self-defense against hostile donkeys.

complex Craftsman's avatar

Why a lever gun ? Maybe because I was always partial to The Rifleman back in the day and people say they are fun to shoot and fairly practical , oh an did I actually mention cougars and bears ? Yeah that is a real thing where I am , so my direct reason for getting a long gun isn't to shoot "hostile donkeys" but as a second possible purpose I dont see why it wouldn't put a whole in them as well as anything else ? It might put down a " donkey sufficiently don't think a 22 long can credibly put down a bear charging me do you ?I'm not Seal Team Six here , but maybe Seal Team 1&1/2 if I'm lucky ( tough old bastard who spent most of my life outdoors working in " The Muscular Trades "as VDH calls them but still old ( and maybe kind of bastard ) none the less )

Do the meth encampment dwellers types on their quads down river a bit count as hostile donkeys? They are loud and stupid , they don't even know that I know that they don't know that I know ,ya know ? I move silently and intentionally thru the forest like the bear , I ain't looking for trouble but if it finds me I don't want to win a Darwin award and the more time I spend out there the more the odds are that I am going to encounter something ( I already have many times over the years ) I got off the grid around the turn of the century really , for my own reasons and before that I lived rurally more than not in my life so I ain't exactly "new " .

Browning1911 Man's avatar

I think you need to get a bit more current knowledge of firearms. Black rifles don't typically shoot .22 longs. Hostile donkeys are...well...

Overt fraud in this election seems to be coming in from everywhere at the moment but none so obvious as the graphic showing that more than 90% of Texas counties have flipped to blue. Excuse me, partner?? The majority of those desolate West Texas counties have little to no liberal representation at all. It’s completely jump the shark laughable that these counties comprised of ranchers and oil men voted blue. But then, to your point, if the goal is to stir an insurrection among the right it had to be that in your face obvious that the elections were a farce.

The King's avatar

I’m a Texan and most counties in Texas did not turn blue. Absolutely impossible. Paxton is a hero, regardless of the rumors about him. The truth about talerico will come out someday. The data shows massive vote fraud across the country.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Because of the computer rigged systems.

And remember, the Republicans couldn't even pass the SAVE Act to attempt to shore up America's elections.

Valerie Leger's avatar

I was so surprised about Texas; to me it was so obvious Talerico spoke out both sides of his face. He was only concerned about one thing as are many of these recent candidates; getting elected no matter what lies you have to tell. Congress is the new avenue to wealth. These candidates just listen to the people and then repeat back to them what they’ve just said. They never have a plan how their going to fix things. That question never gets asked. People who fawned all over him are going to get gut punched.

Michele Hedlund's avatar

Even if there was fraud, what would be done about it?

Kim's avatar

Are Texans taking any action themselves to question local voter fraud?

Trump is only one man.

Te Burt's avatar

You're not the only one who's commented on that point. Nothing in this election shocked me more than this particular fact - and that Talerico beat Paxton. I smell chicanery.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Texas, Kansas, Iowa and may other reliably red states have been flipped blue. Arizona, once a bastion of Republicanism is now deep blue.

But, nobody in leadership cares. Nobody will do anything to stop the fraud. That is why we are screwed. We have nobody who wishes to fix the problem.

Kathy S.'s avatar

I'm a Kansan, and I'm sorry to tell you, Kansas has NOT been reliably red in quite a while. In the 36 years I've lived here, we keep electing Democrat governors about half the time.

We had a Democrat female as governor in 2020-21, and if it had not been for the Republican attorney general and the Republican-majority legislature thwarting that governor and blocking her worst policies, this state would have been as locked down and vaxx-mandated and totalitarian as California.

And here's the worst part: In 2022, Kansans re-elected that awful woman. Because ABORTION. In the primary that year, a state constitutional amendment on abortion was on the ballot. Out-of-state money flooded the state and bought up the airwaves, and all the liberals, single moms, and blue-haired millennial females in the blue hives and college towns went RABID to defeat that amendment, which they did. In the general election three months later, they just rode that momentum to re-elect that woman who, like ever other Democrat pol, was all about "my body, my choice" when it comes to abortion but not one bit when it comes to injecting us all with an experimental "gene therapy treatment" (Pfizer's own technical description in its documents submitted to FDA).

My point is that the magic word in Kansas is abortion. If you're manically committed to protecting women's "right" to kill their own young, the blue hives of Wichita, Kansas City, Topeka, and the university towns will elect you. The election this week was decided by 8 counties out of the state's 105 counties. The other 97 voted Republican.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Interesting. Thank you for the information about the lovely State of Kansas. When I said "reliably red" was referring to who the State usually sends to DC. I was surprised to see Kansas elect a Democrat Senator. Sounds like Kansas has the same problems Utah has. Salt Lake County is whacked out left and is controlled by angry tatted up lesbian politicians. The rest of the state is very much conservative.

Jerri Hinojosa's avatar

To me, the most “impossible” result in Texas was Gina Hinojosa (no relation to me) winning handily over Greg Abbott. Hinojosa was a local Austin politician with zero statewide name recognition and no record to run on. Abbott is a popular governor who is not seen as a Trump insider and who has held firm on the issues dear to the Republican bases’ heart. He also raised 8 times more money. To me, that result is right up there with the candidates who had dropped out months earlier somehow winning elections.

Leskunque Lepew's avatar

Let's not forget the "Republican" Senators that did not push thru the SAVE act.

Rosemary B's avatar

yeah, those POS.

Tom Tom's avatar

90% of Texas counties did NOT ‘flip blue’. Most voted Paxton. You know, the unpopulated rural ones. The smaller number of counties that have most of the population voted blue. Because, you know, counties don’t vote, people do.

rd3's avatar

And the more populated counties are full of third world primitives.

Leskunque Lepew's avatar

Do you think they are legal?

rd3's avatar

No person who arrived here since 1965 is legal, in my book.

EK MtnTime's avatar

It’s the big Texas cities who voted blue…Houston, Dallas, Austin (not that it’s big but it is blue concentrated), Ft. Worth. proper. Rural counties across the nation are typically red.

Michele Hedlund's avatar

Same with Minnesota. Rural areas are red.

Jim's avatar

The graphic doesn’t show those counties flipping blue. It shows them voting bluer than they previously did, and that’s a pretty normal result given the circumstances.

Jerri Hinojosa's avatar

With you 100%. I think the more accurate way to state you excellent point is: 100% of Texas’ 254 counties SHIFTED LEFT (meaning the number of democrat voters increased more than the number of republican voters increased since the prior election in ‘24. The seats that actually “FLIPPED LEFT” was 16 (meaning 16 seats held by republicans incumbents were taken over by democrats). Obviously, some of those seats are very consequential statewide seats.

The map being shown all over the country and being used by many conservatives to argue that all the counties FLIPPED BLUE is misleading. The map we usually see that shows which counties voted red or blue shows, for example, that only 46 counties (the usual suspects-large cities, college towns, Rio Grande Valley and counties bordering Mexico) voted majority for Talarico, while 212 counties (rural counties) voted majority for Paxton.

So rural Texas didn’t FLIP BLUE, it SHIFTED BLUE. Republicans still carried 212 counties in the case of Paxton and I expect the number is very similar for Abbott. The concerning thing about the BLUE SHIFT in rural counties is that blue voters are gaining on red voters (but have not yet surpassed them) in deep red Texas. This may mean more of the people moving to Texas vote blue (and they aren’t just moving to the cities), or more young first or second time voters are voting blue as they join voter roles, or older voters who trend red are dying off, or (as many people are arguing) there were some kind of shenanigans.

If you search for the Texas Tribune map of the election results, you’ll still see most of the counties are red. The big difference I noticed is that blue is stretching out from Austin down and even a little up the I-35 corridor and the blue along the southern border is stretching north and east, probably reflecting immigration trends.

Teresa Cox's avatar

No, they really don't care if she married her brother to get in here. Just like they don't care that they've installed a Muslim Marxist in the Senate. The "church" didn't even push back against the fake gay Christian Talarico with his "God is nonbinary" comment. At this point for much of the functionally illiterate electorate, all that matters is lower gas prices, which they are not going to get, and that mean orange man took a hit. That makes them come in their pants.

Rightly So's avatar

So, who are the "they" you speak of? The same members of the same cabal? If "they" are not doing the job, the Preamble of the Constitution tells us that it is OUR DUTY to abolish the government that no longer works and to replace it with a new one. Read it. Are those just empty words that allegedly "don't apply today?" I don't think so.

We, as a country, are at a crossroads today that this nation has never experienced before. Life is going to be anything BUT "smooth sailing" in the immediate future and who knows where it will end? But if WE (you and I; NOT "them") don't get off our asses and actually participate in stopping this actual, real, and true color revolution against our people and way of life - it WILL succeed and we WILL be absolutely fu_ked!! Then what? "Oh, but it will never happen here." Oookaay!

Hopefully, I don't have to write, "I told you so" 3 years from now - or sooner.

I don't think she's saying that we shouldn't fight this , I think she is saying that the remedies aren't going to come from within the system ,as Mr Kunstler , fine writer that he is and that I appreciate him for , is always alluding to . Its akin to the " white hats " riding in and saving the day from somewhere inside the national security apparatus , its akin to the Q Anon justice porn a lot of us ( myself included for a brief time ) became enamorate of not so many years ago .

No, what's actually happening is that its more of a" whole of government" effort ( uniparty / permanent bureaucracy ) whereby they live by the fiction that they can just destroy this "snotty little " upstart America First Movement ( essentially putting the genie back in the bottle , then they can get back to the business as usual business of grifting and parasiting off of the body politic . Well , I don't think that is going to happen either , but that's actually what they are trying to do here , whether by demoralization (and various other tactics if psychological warfare ) , lawfare , rigged elections, astroturf brown shirtery ( color revs ) whatever , but it is obviously an absurd fiction borne of their own arrogance for them to believe that they will be able to do it . It had to a be a lefty left who originally made the observation " you cant kill an idea MAAAN " but still they would have been correct , especially when it comes to the idea that man should breath free of oppression by a bunch of parasitical takers with the tacit force of government and the color of law behind them . No , this will not stand , but I don't think we are anywhere near the begining of the end if all of this ( remembering the stupid meme : "stand by momentarily while your country is being rebooted /as if / the fiction that any of our solutions should be as easy peazy as most of our lives up to this point have been relatively speaking ) , Maybe Mr Kunstler is trying to" manifest " justice by creating the expectation of it ? I dunno , I just live in a van down by the river MAAAN >

Democrats have been playing the long game of stealth demographic change ever since Ted Kennedy in what was it, 1965? Evil is patient.

Freedom 4 conservatives's avatar

People forget history. For most of its history, Texas was a Democrat state, run by a fully corrupt Democrat Party machine. Texas is the state that created and gave us LBJ, arguably the most corrupt, racist, evil piece of shit that ever occupied the White House up until that time. It was LBJ that cloaked racism and government dictatorial control in the ruse of the "Great Society." His and the Democrat plan was to make blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans permanently government-dependent and, thus, dependable Democrat voters. And it worked. What he didn't realize was that the welfare class would breed itself into a voting majority that could effectively oust rich, powerful, white Democrats from political power. The cruel irony is that, now, powerful white Democrats like Schumer, et al, while they still preach "Demographic Destiny", are too stupid to realize that the Socialist white-hating vermin that they have "invited" to enter the U.S. and/or to senselessly breed here on the taxpayers' dime on the pretext of becoming dependent and dependable Democrat voters will soon have the power to exterminate white Democrats right along with conservatives and moderates. You think that Islamo-Socialists won't gleefully rape and murder liberal white Karens in the suburbs when they have dictatorial power?

JohnAZ's avatar

If you look at the county by county map of Texas, you will see what happened.

The cities voted Left, the dependent city dwellers always do. The change from 2024 was on the border, the Latino vote overwhelmingly flipped. Nationally, the minority voters that Trump had made big inroads with, reverted back to Obama levels. The 20 million voters JHK noted were minority voters the Dems scooped up. Trump has become a target for the Left and their game is not over.

I'm discouraged; I admit it. Let's acknowledge President Trump is a pretty good political card player and is not about to fold. We must hope he has sharp-witted team members who can advise him on what constitutionally valid moves he can still make on his own authority.

But Trump spun such an epic disaster by launching a war against Iran that demand for his good judgment exceeds supply.

Even so, being discouraged is one thing, being demoralized is another. There is no way demoralization can help. We might as well keep some faith because no good can come from abandoning it. The future has mysterious ways of turning expectations into time's fool. Per La Rochefoucauld: "Nothing is as bad, or as good, as it seems."

Kathy Christian's avatar

Iran was the last country on the PNAC list to be targeted for regime change. There were seven. All have been regime-changed. The intent is to eliminate national sovereignty of all nations and induct them into economic zones. The United States, Canada and Mexico are in zone 1. There are ten planned zones. The countries within a given zone will be "ruled" by a representative, which, of course, necessitates the dissolution of their present governments. The democrat party wants to "fundamentally transform" our government from what the founders made to what they want, which is a quasi-Marxist dictatorship.

Cankerpuss's avatar

And the Republicans did nothing to stop it. What does that say about Republicans?

Lugh's avatar

So Trump is evil too. Good, Kathy.

Except we haven't defeated Iran. They regime changed us more than we did them.

Cankerpuss's avatar

The only thing the rotten Democrats are going to do is persecute Trump. They don't give a rat's ass about energy prices, inflation, health care costs, tax reductions, ending foreign wars (neither did Republicans, obviously). The first thing these motherfuckers did when they won back the House and Senate was breathe out threats against Trump and his supporters. Fraud had a lot to do with this but the Republicans did nothing to shore up the elections.

We are in a bad way here. A really bad way because we have nobody who represents Americans. Period. Political parties have destroyed America. The biggest mistake made by the Founding Fathers is they didn't prohibit political parties in the US Conny and it is certainly leading to this country's demise.

Vegan Shark's avatar

Particularly depressing in this campaign and the past two years was the spineless behavior of Republicans in Congress. They (and Trump) showed enthusiasm only for driving out Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene, almost the only stalwarts in a party of time servers ready to cross the aisle officially or sneakily.

The idea that the Republicans are an "opposition" bloc is laughable.

A system including political parties has its drawbacks, but I think it can hardly be avoided. George Washington was opposed and there is no provision in the Constitution for parties, but the new Republic was still in the nursery when they formed. It's almost inevitable that politicians with some beliefs or motivations in common will see the advantage of organizing to leverage their clout.

John Schrauth's avatar

The Bush establishment GOP in Texas torpedoed Texas, publicly supporting and claiming to have voted for Talarico. Bush and his running dog Rove were incensed that Cornyn was massively repudiated in the primary. Cornyn was a grade A RINO. The democrat party makes sure that government doesn't work so it can campaign on changing it because it doesn't work. His predictions are consistently wrong. Wishful thinking, unsupported by experience, negated by subsequent events.

Cankerpuss's avatar

I'm still waiting to see 5 dimensional chess player Trump finally make the move that brings "checkmate." After Trump started the Iran war in behalf of Israel and screwed up the economy and pissed off his supporters I became convinced that he isn't playing chess. He's doing what he's told.

James Mead's avatar

Or just a red meat pitcher. No arrests, no trials, no convictions just a slow but steady decline of our country. Trump is just a speed bump until we truly are about 10-12 tribes in 50 different countries

It's all in the code. Everyone is chasing their tales about registrations, ballot fraud, etc.. They're living in the past. Fraud has embraced the future.

Behind the scenes, the votes are simply switched. It was easy as pie before AI, but now, even a caveman could do it.

James-

Since NOTHING was done about their previous crimes, why wouldn't they?

Paul Downey's avatar

I hear the world's largest corporatocracy has just gone to the polls.

The only problem being that the corporations have been hard at work at the education system now for very many decades. And you've all been so dumbed-down, in the process, that you still all think you're living in a democracy.

By-and-large Americans are so stupid they do not even know how stupid they are. And here in the UK? Very much the same.

rd3's avatar

The problem is that we DO live in a democracy, of sorts.

Kathy Christian's avatar

I have to agree with you there, Paul. Some of us went to Catholic school, though, and escaped the indoctrination.

MH's avatar

Remember back when the Iran war started? I stated back then that I voted for Trump three times. But, because of the war, I would be voting Democrat as a way to punish the Republican party into fixing themselves. I was told in so many words by so many people, "Nobody cares. It's not going to do anything. Voters like you will have no effect. The young people aren't going to do shit. Etc. We don't care."

I'm commenting to follow up on that. It looks like the statistics disagree. My question is:

Do you care now?

James Mead's avatar

Yup, cut off your dick for others to care. Well done, well done indeed.

MH's avatar

I didn't cut off anything for you to care.

I voted against a Republican administration that started ANOTHER overseas war after campaigning against exactly that kind of thing. Now they have fewer seats, less power, and brakes on what they can do. GOOD. That's called accountability. They lost their mandate.

You should have listened then. They should listen now. They don't own my vote. You don't own my vote. If Republicans want it back, they can earn it by being worth a damn.

You don’t own me. I’m not just one of your pretty toys.

Ben's avatar

No, you're an idiot thinking Iran is the problem and that Iran is not already at war with the US and its interests.

What an absolute sucker.

Get ready for even higher gas prices.

How are people so disenfranchised from reality?

MH's avatar

I didn’t say Iran wasn’t already hostile to the U.S., and I didn’t say Iran itself wasn’t a “problem.” You invented both of those claims and then called me an idiot for believing them. Great.

What I actually said was that Trump started ANOTHER full-scale overseas war after campaigning against exactly that kind of thing. And citing the higher gas prices caused by that war as evidence that I’m wrong is an impressive level of idiotic self-own.

Maybe stop inventing arguments for five seconds and cogitate on the decisions of the people actually in power. Really, just take a moment and fire up those neurons.

JohnAZ's avatar

Amazing, the stupidity of some. Here is JHK, warning us about the supply side of oil since 2005 and yet there are some that think that the nice guys in Tehran are justified in their desire to control the flow of oil. IMO, those folks being the first to feel the pinch of oil shortages is Justice.

My question is, who should defend the world’s seaways and the supply chains that run through them? In my opinion, the USA should just back off and let the world worry about getting their oil.

Robert Italia's avatar

Look what you voted FOR. Do a deep dive into Iran. Much more involved than the nukes.

MH's avatar

What a vague and uninteresting comment.

Kathy Christian's avatar

You're going to get a war with Russia with the next democrat president. They'll institute a draft to supply soldiers for that war. Everyone will be all for that war because it'll be sold to them as being for democracy. Nobody minds dying for democracy. Just ask Alex Pretti and Renee Good. I'm sure they're glad right now that they died for democracy.

MH's avatar

Remember when people said Kamala Harris would drag us into a war with Iran? Kamala Harris isn’t the president.

What are we doing right now, Kathy?

We are literally in the war you people warned me the Democrat would start.

And for the record, Kathy, my hope is that this midterm election wakes Republicans the fuck up and gets us a president in 2028 who is actually worth a fuck instead of another useless sack of shit like Donald Trump. That was the point. If they put someone like JD Vance up there, count me out.

elysianfield's avatar

You tell me I can't go out with other boys.....

Kathy Christian's avatar

Just wait. Once we have a democrat president again, we're going to war with Russia. They'll be all for that one, because it'll be for democracy.

JohnAZ's avatar

Kathy, we just had an election that says that the American people are just as gimme, just as socialistic as Russia. The global socialists have won a great battle. I have said that the future of American ideals depends on two elections. Patriotic America just lost the first one. 2028 may finish America off. The election of AOC would be fitting?

Rick's avatar

The fact that one could believe that this election was real is astounding!

MH's avatar

The fact that you have no capacity for self-reflection and immediately jump to assuming there must be some statistical impossibility, that the math must somehow be wrong, or that you’ve been cheated is not astounding at all and is entirely believable to me.

EK MtnTime's avatar

Exactly. I can’t wait for these ridiculous folks, who voted blue as punishment, to wallow in the coming misery that will be wrought by looney left. This is a catastrophe for the USA. All because of folks who thought punishment was the only consequence of their actions. Thanks for damning us to a repeat of Trump 1.0 x50!

Len Penzo's avatar

Yes, the "punishment" angle is how teenagers think. I'm PO'd at Trump as much as anyone, but I actually understand that since both sides ALWAYS lie and backtrack on certain campaign promises, "punishing" that particular behavior on a particular issue to benefit the side that goes against a majority of my primary interests is not only futile, but comically self-destructive.

Kathy S.'s avatar

EK, excuse me, but ALL of us, including you and I, will suffer the coming misery!! You can't target the punishment to the traitors and idiots. We are ALL stuck with the painful consequences.

EK MtnTime's avatar

Read my last sentence. I am in no way saying only certain people will suffer. My inference was the people who voted for the left as a punishment will be punished by their action.

MH's avatar

Then come up with something better. I don’t owe you or the Republican Party a fucking thing. I was already unhappy with what they were doing. I voted to punish them for it and to put brakes on an administration I thought was making disastrous decisions. I am already in misery.

If the outcome makes you angry, good. That is the point. Maybe next time Republicans will be worth a fuck instead of assuming they’re entitled to my vote because the alternative scares me more.

Lugh's avatar

They're for the rich. Period. Trump pretended to be for us. He lied. We need a a Third Party.

Kathy Christian's avatar

The punishment will be targeted to certain constituents. After they've been politically neutered.

Storie Mooser's avatar

If the Islamist jihad isn't stopped now, it will acquire nukes and delivery systems of unlimited range, putting the Western World back at the gates of Vienna in 1684. So, forget about stopping Trump's effort there because this is about which values will prevail, that of the Western Enlightenment or that of Islam's one aim of world domination.

MH's avatar

“Islam wants world domination” isn’t a serious thought. Israel already has nuclear weapons, guy. What exactly do you think the sworn enemy of a nuclear-armed state is going to want to do? And not a unilateral sworn enemy, by the way.

We already had this problem solved. Obama had created the JCPOA. Trump threw it away. And then started a war. The war has achieved essentially nothing. It’s been an exercise in spinning our wheels. We kicked a hornet’s nest and celebrated damaging the hornet’s nest. Congratulations, geniuses.

We had a functional agreement. Trump threw it away. Now we've fought a horrific, expensive, destructive war that Trump himself promised he would not pursue, and now we’re back at the negotiating table trying to get the same deal Obama had already made. And the kicker is, we’re not even guaranteed to achieve that because we destroyed the very trust that facilitated those negotiations in the first place BY BOMBING THEIR LEADERSHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF NEGOTIATIONS.

You people will never learn.

Ben's avatar

Islam has, for the most part, given up takeovers using swords; now they just have tons of kids and take over with demographic shifts, think France, and wake up.

I look at useful idiots like you stumping for Iran and wonder what happened to your brain.

MH's avatar

Here’s your syllogism:

Iran bad.

Therefore war good.

Don’t you think there are about twenty fucking steps missing there? Like whether going to war was actually a good strategic decision, whether it could actually achieve its objectives, what the costs would be and what happens after?

Because from what I’ve watched for the last eight months, it’s been a really bad decision.

You’re conflating a very real criticism of this war with “stumping for Iran,” and that’s insanely idiotic.

Storie Mooser's avatar

Ben, these people suffer great "disquiet" for two main reasons: (1) They don't have the intellectual tolerance to undertake the patience necessary for discretionary judgment, whether about issues or persons of prominence. this leads to (2) They subsequently are dismissive of the cause for their disquiet, wanting to broaden "cause" to world aligned against them. In other words, that've failed to mature -- remain infantile.

Ben's avatar

Prove Israel has nukes.

Prove it!

You can't, and they have never said they do or don't.

elysianfield's avatar

Ben,

The discussions of the "Samson Option" notwithstanding.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Israel doesn't have nukes? That's a new one to me.

Lugh's avatar

Israeli historian, Martin Van Creveld, has admitted it.

Kathy S.'s avatar

"“Islam wants world domination” isn’t a serious thought."

Obviously, you have no familiarity with the Quran, the Hadith, plus the writings and sermons of imams, from highest to lowest, all over the world. The whole world being under Islam is one of the most basic tenets of their faith.

You should give Muslims the basic respect of taking seriously what they actually say.

MH's avatar

Cool. You responded to one sentence and ignored the entire argument.

Whether Islam has expansionist doctrines does not answer whether this war was necessary, strategically intelligent, worth its costs, or more effective than the nuclear agreement we already had.

You picked the easiest sentence to argue with and skipped everything that actually mattered.

Devin Nickle's avatar

JCPOA was a POS. It was a gift from Obama to the nuclear and missile programs of the mullahs. Iran, and Islam in general are a cancer on this world.

MH's avatar

Then why is Trump trying to renegotiate the JCPOA now? Why is he trying to negotiate basically the same nuclear deal, except from a worse position and on less favorable terms than the JCPOA already had?

Lugh's avatar

Well you're wrong there. Islam divides the world into two: The House of Islam and the House of War. Jihad is the process by which the latter becomes the former. The Hijrah or Migration is part of Jihad.

MH's avatar

Okay. Grant all of that for the sake of argument. What does any of it have to do with the rest of what I said?

Does it tell us whether this war was necessary? Whether abandoning the JCPOA improved anything? Whether the war accomplished its strategic objectives? Whether it was worth the cost? Whether going back to negotiations now leaves us better off than we were before? You are arguing with the preamble and ignoring the actual argument.

James, one need only read your hysteria-fueled post of Monday this week to realize that …. you don’t have a freaking clue as to what’s actually going on in this country.

Your Monday post aged like a gallon of unpasteurized milk left out all day in the tropical sun. Which is to say not well. Not well at all.

Even Trump, who never admits failure at ANYTHING, isn’t bothering to call this historic landslide (including Texas, Kansas, Ohio, and South Carolina) “election fraud.” Give it a rest already.

Doubtful, and responding to one or all of your dim-bulb posts isn't stalking.

Stalking would be finding all the sites you post on and posting there too.

Which is pretty easy, but you are neither interesting nor informative enough to put any effort into.

So quit flattering yourself.

Marrying a real doll is not actually being married, and your projection of stalking teenage girls is obviously your thing.

Yes, I am judging you, freaking weirdo.
