The GOP has no sense of urgency. That's its main pathology

Lisa's avatar
Feb 23Edited

The omnipresent grift from the local to the State to the National level is mind boggling once personally encountered and one understands that one's rights are determined by the ability to afford lawyering up. In fact, too many who are not even in positions of power have sold their souls and lie compulsively. - Yet, I still believe that it's possible for those of us who continue to fight the good fight to yet be the victors at the end of the day.

Ben R's avatar

Insanity is part of the problem as well.

The insanity of Republicans thinking second place is fine, and we can still fundraise to keep our jobs.

There is enormous profit in second place and riling the base.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Still Republicans, JohnAZ.

JohnAZ's avatar

Not if you ask them or Trump. If Trump does not dump them he is not finished.

Lugh's avatar

If he dumps them, he is finished. He'll lose his Jewish donor base. You can have Americans or you can have Israelis. You can't have both.

Lugh's avatar

NO, real Republicans. This is what they are now.

NY Nanny's avatar

wkenn's avatar

This is true.

Unfortunately it is not the real-life huge problem. The marxists of the far, far Left, the people who intend on having their marxist utopia, are well-organized. They self fund (they call it 'mutual aid') . Forget the bullshit about 'Soros money' 'Soros' is the mirror image of TDS. The real problem is the far far left. They are coming, well organized and well funded (by themselves), to overthrow the government and replace it with their utopia.

They're anti-capitalist to the core. Unless someone goes looking and learns their language ( it is all there for a motivated individual to see), they will continue to win. The recent happenings in Minneapolis should be viewed as a tiny appetizer.

Are they winning? Notice the federal government backed down and withdrew instead of mercilessly crushing them. MN is like a petrie dish. Experiments were conducted and successful tactics were noted, shared and are now in waiting for warmer weather.

Breck Breckenridge's avatar

Correct. Look no further than Saul Alinsky: While not a Marxist professor at the University of Chicago, Alinsky was a prominent Chicago-based community organizer whose methods influenced Hillary Clinton's senior thesis at Wellesley College.

I believe he wrote a handbook on how to create a Marxist-Socialistic revolution in America. You need only look at the Antifa shit and assorted groups to see his book being implemented. There is no right wing book to compare with Alinsky's.

Cankerpuss's avatar

"Rules for Radicals." I have read it. The left follows Alinsky's play book to a "T." It is Satanic.

Cankerpuss's avatar

It was required reading for my Master's Degree at the University of Utah.

Lugh's avatar

The pallets of bricks were delivered by people who have lots of money. They want our cities destroyed, by left wing lunatics or by energy weapons masquerading as global warming.

Read John Birch literature. It's all there except for who these financial elite actually are ethnically speaking.

wkenn's avatar

Yes, the right wing, which one might think would be a counterbalance, is silent. Neither of this left/right axis' sides are monolithic, they are spectrums. The left side spectrum has it down. The various factions mostly learn from their mistakes and present united fronts.

The right side is fragmented and mostly unimaginative.

We hear about 'left wing protesters', buy really never hear much about 'right wing protesters.

Well organized AND afraid of excommunication if they ever express a moderate opinion. Unity is what makes the Dems powerful, they do not even needs whips.

wkenn's avatar

They stick together like glue. They have a hierarchy. The big 'D' Dems (Party of Chaos) all stay in line. They need to wait their turn, no jumping ahead in the line.

Up here in the Northeast, with the population drain causing elimination of Congressional seats, when the census shows a seat is gone, it is last in/first out. Them's the rules! If one plays by them, a cushy minimum show job at good wages is bestowed to soften the blow. The state college system and quasi-governmental yet mostly independent agencies such as the Port Authority (MassPort) and places like the Convention Center can absorb the casualties. Quietly playing the game by the rules has rewards

Carl L. McWilliams's avatar

Yes, you are correct. To the far, far left Marxists, the promised utopia of Communism is liken to a religious fervor. If only the Body of Jesus Christ was as dedicated to the wishes of the King of kings; as the far left democrat Communist is committed to his/her godless religion of mindless servitude to a global central government.

JohnAZ's avatar

Carl

Do you think that the rise of neo-Communism is the result of the Dems loading on autocratic or totalitarian socialism into the education system and the import of millions of socialistic invaders. IMO, the invasion was not accomplished only for votes, but to shift the common culture to the acceptance of some form of socialism.

A question I have is how the heck did all these “professors” get into academia? Is academia the real source of the PTB drive to keep national decision making in the hands of the folks that are “smarter than we are?

wkenn's avatar

They took over academia starting maybe in the '70's in a serious manner. Thus they have recruiting grounds

It is now down into grade school. Getting these young impressionable minds indoctrinated early on is key to having adherents positioned in society as they age up the lifespan.

Insidious and diabolic are terms which come to mind.

Having those drag queen story hours is a way to work on removing gender, which in their minds is a capitalist structure. They are ant-capitalist.

Bringing in those illegals brought in a lot of revolutionaries; the 'noise protests' witnesses in Minneapolis, the hallmark being bang of metal pots and pans, is imported from, for instance, places is S. America. When you hear or witness a 'noise' protest' the noise = revolution. They are set on overthrowing the Republic.

The funding for the jobs came from the ever-increasing tuitions which were paid by ever-increasing student debt with is not dischargeable in bankruptcy court. You can look back a few decade but it really took off under the Kenyan.

wkenn's avatar

Yes, they are zealots. They are willing to take casualties for their cause.

They hate Democrats and democrats. People confuse the foolishness emanating from politicians with a 'D' after there name (and most with an 'R" as well) as the problem. It goes much deeper and is far worse.

It is multi-faceted. The nuclear family was targeted and in the process of elimination. This same nuclear family is foundational to the belief systems of Western Civilization dating back at least 2,000 years.

They don't like hierarchy, they are anarchists. They believe there never has been a marxist utopia. They will create it. Gender distinctions are capitalism, which they abhor. Genders do not exist, or if they do there are so many of them they become countless and thus meaningless.

I could go on and on. All we are doing here is parsing in the manner of either psycholinguistics or computer language. It appears our thoughts/understanding is much more similar than dissimilar.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Too many people can't give up self identifying with the "D" or the "R" by their names. "I was born a Democrat and by God I will die a Democrat." Who cares if the Democrats no longer represent anything they actually believe in. My father-in-law is vehemently opposed to abortion and supports gun rights but he is a card carrying Democrat. I tried to point this out once and he gave me the quotation above.

Lugh's avatar

After the revolution, such vermin are purged. You can't run a communist nation with communism after all.

Dennis L. Merwood's avatar

"This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it"- John Adams, the second president of the United States (1797–1801), Founding Father, lawyer, and diplomat.

Lugh's avatar

Nope. Revolutions take lots of money. Who funds them? The Capitalists. Why? To bring non-Capitalist/Communist nations and economies into the bi-matrix. Now obviously, the hand that gives is the stronger than the hand that revives. Capitalism is the heads and Communism the tails. The Global Elite are on both sides of this. If you move a large, heavy object, you use both hands, right? Alright then.

JohnAZ's avatar

No, governments and the resultant crony capitalism. Adam Smith’s answer requires unfettered capitalism, not regulated and taxed capitalism. Capitalism requires one thing that crony capitalism loses, and that is continuous creation of new companies. The failures of capitalism need a place to go for a second, third or fourth chance. The crony capitalists, the product of bad government, create an economy where competition is stifled. That is why the productive sector shrinks. High tech intensifies the situation with the continuous shake outs that happen. Used to be in San Jose, if you got laid off, you went to the local mall and got another one from a kiosk. That is capitalism. The entrepeneuerial spirit promoted by capitalism, is the only thing that keeps a population excited. With none, like the rust belt, things deteriorate into a drunken, drug ridden mess.

The function of government should be to keep the creative juices of a society flowing, not stifle new development.

AI is going to stifle new job creation and thus new company formation if it is not controlled. You know, AI, a potential end stage of socialism where our AI friends will control everything.

Cankerpuss's avatar

There is no fixing this mess we call the American government, Lisa. If there is any flaw in JHK's writing it is that he places too much faith in a broken American system of government to fix itself. I don't share his optimism but I always appreciate his optimism. I believe it is too far gone to recover. A complete and total collapse is the only solution. Only then can the people rebuild.

wkenn's avatar

Another author, writing a different Substack, offered a Carrintotn Event might be the answer.

Such events have cycles, we are closer to one than might imagined.

Lisa's avatar

Something's got to give...

wkenn's avatar

It might be a distinct possibility, I misspelled (keyboard thing) Carrington Event. The planets is also experiencing increased volcanic activity along what I think is termed the Ring of Fire. There are other threats, many of them could send us back to early 1800's, maybe further back.

There exists a group of scientists who can make a case for long term cycles which go back to the Flood written about Noah and the Ark.

I won't discount any of these. They seem to come along when 'things' seem to be getting way out of hand.

Dennis L. Merwood's avatar

The Flood written about Noah and the Ark is a myth.

Lisa's avatar

A viable, healthy planet (with the globalist's transhumanist agenda having been abolished) which will enable future generations to flourish and pursue their rights of life, liberty, and happiness.

Cankerpuss's avatar

Here's where the Democrats are taking the health of our planet.

Currently, the Potomac River in Washington DC is closed to activity due to a sew pipe failure dumping 240 millions gallons of raw sewage into the river once termed by George Washington as "America's River." To give scale, the Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico dumped 140 million gallons of crude oil into the Gulf.

The media is not report on this horrific sewage spill and failure of the DC water department? Why? Because the head of DC's water department is a DEI hire and is a black man who is more concerned about firing white people instead of shoring up DC's water supply. Ironically, the man DC water hired to manage its operations worked for a water company that also oversaw the Flint Michigan water disaster a few years back.

Democrat policies are putting non-qualified individuals into positions of power simply because of their skin colors. The result? Sewage infested Potomac River. Democrats will destroy the environment from sheer incompetence alone.

Steve's avatar

The GOP has two problems. One is that its base is a coalition of people who object to the left's excesses, but in very different ways (religious Christians, small business owners, and small-government types who can't stomach the current Libertarian Party). The second is that it's full of fake Republicans (RINOs) - a Democrat isn't winning statewide in Iowa or South Dakota, with no cities big enough to cheat by mail. So they run as Republicans and then govern mostly as Democrat enablers.

The Republican Party also doesn't have the ridiculous litmus tests of the Democrats (or at least not as many of them), so you don't have to prostrate yourself on an Altar of Woke just to win the primary. A few stale catchphrases from the 1980s still seem to do the trick, although Trump (a man I don't even particularly care for, it's just that everyone else on the ballot has sucked even harder since 2020) cut through them by demonstrating that the emperor had no clothes and calling them out. Rudely, crudely, but nonetheless ACCURATELY, which is a "yuge" part of the man's appeal for many people.

Point being, it's easy to be a fake Republican, but it's damn near impossible to be a fake Democrat, and I suspect that's by design.

Ben R's avatar

Fetterman says some common-sense things and then votes Democrat across the board.

At times, he makes grunts like he is not a hide-bound crazy DEMOCRAT.

To be a politician, it appears one must sell one's soul to the DNC and one's values to the RNC.

P. Robert Thorson's avatar

To me this indicates how owned our politicians our to the party affiliation, and it works on both sides. Even if Trump is able to get a few Dems charged and convicted of their extensive crimes, there is no indication this will lead to any united movement within .gov to address the current Predicaments, and the approaching flock of Black Swans related to the Long Emergency. There is just too much rot in the system.

Any long-term improvements where adults will be allowed to re-take the reins will most likely require citizens of good character operating outside of the existing political machines. And that will most likely be a long slog through the muck of collapse and rebirth, and that process can go so many different ways the odds are slim we end up with anything resembling a Republic on the other side....

John Schrauth's avatar

Black Swans are unexpected events. If you see a lot of bad stuff winging our way those are not Black Swans. Black Swans are by definition a manifestation of "it can always get worse." Things you did not imagine or have any means of detecting beforehand. Total surprises.

P. Robert Thorson's avatar

I think our definitions are different. Black swan events are not surprises to everyone, and are also events - which in hindsight - are rationalized inappropriately, at least according to Wikipedia. As the events of the Long Emergency unfold, we'll hear at first "nobody saw that coming" (which is false), and then "how could we not see that coming?" (well, duh.)

In this case, some of us don't know the specifics of how, when or exactly what will later be called a black swan, but we know they're in the pipeline.

John Schrauth's avatar

I am going by what I think is Nassim Taleb's definition.

Dictatorships don't switch leaders every four to eight years.

A dictator is a ruler with total, unrestricted authority over a government, often seizing power by force and maintaining it through coercion, oppression, and the suppression of civil liberties. Unlike democratic leaders, they are not elected and face no legal checks or balances.

Douglas's avatar

That's why it's called an organized dictatorship. Read for comprehension much?

The role of the real turncoats, the Bushes, created Trump and thank God, he created the populist revolt that destroyed Jeb Bush and with it the dynasty. The RINOs have not forgiven Trump for that, but they were the Elite and PTB of the GOP at the time. I wish Trump would divorce himself from the RINOs loudly and once and for all. The money is in place, a new name, the American Party, is in place and the most powerful, economically speaking, Elon Musk is in place. IMO, there are loads of moderate Dems and independents that are looking for a new home after the Ult-Left destroyed their political home.

Lugh's avatar

NY Nanny's avatar

Excellent post- thanks for that.

You said something very interesting about people "who can't stomach the current Libertarian Party."

I wonder if you could elaborate on that a bit Also, do you live in NY?

Steve's avatar

I do not live in NY.

I was, for many years, a literal, card-carrying member of the Libertarian Party. I voted for Browne and Badarnik.

Bob Barr in 2008 was inexplicable with the crappy choices of McCain and Obama which was just about as bad as how I saw Trump/Hillary 2016. I wrote a random name and left the LP.

I did give Gary Johnson a reluctant shot in 2012 and 2016 but the 2020 candidates were SO INCREDIBLY BAD about what the Libertarian Party is supposed to be about (individual liberty - especially in 2020 with all the Covid crap) that I even ended up voting for Trump twice in disgust with them. Nothing but evil mandates and their campaign platform was basically "open borders uber alles and let's simp for the racist anti-white-male anti-racism campaign while we're at it")

And I don't really even like Trump. But boy did the mask come off when Cheney and the Bushes endorsed Kamala Harris, of all people. I mean it might have been sort of believable when they were for Clinton or Biden, but that's just throwing "conservatism" out the window. Actually, no, them doing that was flushing it down the toilet and PROVING once and for all, beyond any rational doubt, what we've all said about the evil globalist scumbags. The Libertarians are now Dem Lite, the Republicans are controlled opposition, and the Democrats are totalitarian globalist communist technocrats.

So, yeah, I'm pretty disgusted with the entire rotten system.

Lugh's avatar

Just as the Epstein files have torn the mask off Trump. Now he must attack Iran or be destroyed by his "friends".

Night owl's avatar

I agree with you on many things. I saw Trump as more of a disrupter, a breath of potential fresh air

I have mostly abandoned that view now. He's made some egregious errors on issues that are fundamental to liberty, and he appears to still be trying to split some difference with some of the most evil people on the planet.

The system cannot be reformed, IMO. At least not without a full implosion of some sort.

Skenny's avatar

Not passing the SAVE act would constitute a last gasp for the GOP, and a major (probably irrecoverable) step in the continuing decline of the Republic. Eight years of Trump will have simply delayed the Deep State's march.

- And confuse the BAHAMAS with BERMUDA at a Black History Month event this month?

- And be unable to remember what part of his body was subject to an MRI in December (it was his head) ... with his insistence he took an "IQ test" at that time, when it was a simple dementia screening test.

- And confuse Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi during his campaign?

- And the increasing occurrences of him *falling asleep* in the middle of cabinet meetings, at his 'Board of Peace' meeting, and at various public appearances recently?

These are not 'political ideology' issues.

These are cognitive health issues.

Biden was clearly suffering from cognitive decline near the end of his presidential term. Not a political ideology issue. Trump is clearly suffering from cognitive decline now, near the beginning of his.

Ron Neff's avatar

Mr. Gonzo---- you say that Biden showed cognitive decline near the end of his term? Were you stuck in a cave during 2020. Why do you think they kept Biden in the basement for most of 2020 and why do you think they carefully scripted his times in public in both 2020 and thru 2024? Biden was wrong on every issue for the last 20 years and clearly showed almost zero cognitive ability since before 2020. It would be quite interesting to see what meds he has been taking over the last 10 years because I would think he was taking a cocktail of many different meds to keep him from being a total zombie. Trump brokering and providing Peter Thiel, Larry Ellison & Sam Altman with a half a TRILLION[!] dollars falls into that last mandate. "Her message to Trump supporters: We’re coming after you when we’re back in power. “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” Really? Does she honestly believe that she and her fellow-travelers will be able to stand upright amidst the howling winds that would ensue should the left embark upon such an adventure? One is reminded of what Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 28: "If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government..."

Gym+Fritz's avatar

“original right of self defense” . . to be effective this needs to be done on at least a state level - and when was the last time that was tried?

Decisive, effective action is needed, and the first step is to make our elections reflect the will of the people: simple, easily auditable . . one citizen, one vote, one day . . and congressional representation should reflect the number of citizens in a district.

I would imagine that they have all sorts of horrors ready and waiting for Trump supporters, but the country will once again come under the EV mandates, the 46.6 percent cap gains tax and the 25 percent equity tax, look for the 501c3 tax exempt status to be removed from white churches only for not following federal hiring rules ( they've already signalled their war on the church with the church invasions sanctioned by democrat elected representatives), the reimposition of DEI, gas prices spiking up to $5+/gallon again, everything we suffered through the four Biden years will come back on steroids. Expect prosecutions and jailings of people for what they posted on social media. It will be the dictatorship of the democrat proletariat in the United States when democrats get back in, no doubt about it.

A simple question this kind of craziness has happened in other countries.

That being said, why can't it all happen right here in the good old US of A.

Not that long ago, it was discovered that China sent secret police into America to deal with dissenters!

Countries with Recent Reported Political Detentions (2024–2026):

Venezuela: The government has historically held political prisoners, with a significant crackdown following the 2024 elections. As of early 2026, it was estimated that over 600 people remained in custody for political reasons, with thousands targeted over the past two decades.

Belarus: The Viasna Human Rights Centre reported 1,144 individuals as political prisoners as of February 2026, with activists, journalists, and opposition members held incommunicado or in penal colonies.

Uganda: Opposition leader Kizza Besigye was abducted in November 2024 and held in military detention, part of a pattern of suppressing political opposition ahead of elections.

Tanzania: Tundu Lissu, a leader of the main opposition party (CHADEMA), was detained in April 2025 for campaigning against the government.

South Sudan: Opposition leader Riek Machar and dozens of supporters were detained in March 2025, creating a volatile political environment ahead of scheduled elections.

Democratic Republic of Congo: Military courts have sentenced opposition leaders, such as former President Joseph Kabila, to death for treason, a tactic used to eliminate political competition.

Iran: Following the 2022 "Woman Life Freedom" protests, authorities have continued to arrest, detain, and execute dissidents and protesters, with 2025 seeing high numbers of executions linked to political dissent.

Georgia: During 2024–2026 protests, reports indicated a wave of mass detentions of opposition figures, activists, and protest participants.

Other Countries with Systematic Suppression of Opposition:

According to organizations like Freedom House and the Committee to Protect Journalists, the following countries frequently target citizens for holding the "wrong" political beliefs or for non-governmental organizing:

China: Continues to suppress dissent and surveil citizens to prevent challenges to the Communist Party.

Eritrea: The government has crushed independent media, leading to a climate where perceived dissenters are arrested.

North Korea: Strict, total control over political ideology, where any deviation leads to harsh punishment.

Russia: Known for carrying out "human rights abuses... to silence or deter dissent" both within and outside its borders.

Saudi Arabia: Uses imprisonment and repression to silence activists.

Myanmar: The military junta has targeted, arrested, and revoked the citizenship of pro-democracy activists.

Tunisia: The government has recently moved to disqualify all political opposition.

Methods of Targeting

Governments often use tactics such as:

Arbitrary Detention: Arresting individuals without formal charges.

"Framed" Crimes: Using criminal statutes (like treason, drug possession, or public disturbance) to jail political opponents.

Transnational Repression: Targeting dissidents living outside their home countries.

Citizenship Revocation: Stripping political opponents of their nationality

They're very open about it, and very much ignored by what passes for mainstream 'news' which many people choose to be exposed to and avidly consume it.

They abhor dictators such as Stalin, masquerading as communists. They have no use for either Democrats or democrats. "Liberals" just get in the way.

In their utopia everyone contributes and receives according to needs. Fight it and they will deny you food. Since you are in a propertyless community, comrade, you have no patch of land to grow food. You either starve or become re-educated.

Unfortunately there is a high probability this will occur. It might be widespread, it might be in isolated pockets. Some are training, it will be a two-way range.

An unfortunate aspect of this is many sides can emerge, making it a true civil war. I've made numerous references to Missouri in the 1850's and 1860's over the years. Once the genie is let out of the bottle all bets are off. Warlords won't give up their power.

Kunstler is spot on—this isn't politics anymore, it's straight-up war on the country. Susan Rice and the Obama crew aren't hiding it; they're openly signaling revenge on anyone who bends the knee to Trump, like it's their divine right to punish "disloyalty." Borders wide open, hoaxes stacked on hoaxes, all to drown out real Americans and lock in power forever. That's not incompetence. That's treason with a smile.

But here's what burns me worse: the so-called Republican majority just rolled over again. They rammed the SAVE America Act through the House on Feb 11—proof of citizenship, photo ID, the basics—and then... crickets. The Senate's got the votes on paper, but McConnell's old guard and Thune's crowd are too busy playing nice or protecting their own cushy deals to actually fight. They had the majority, they had the momentum, and they let it die in committee or filibuster hell. Again.

This isn't failure. It's a collaboration. The uniparty wants the theater—keep us yelling at each other while the real game stays rigged. If the right can't even pass something this straightforward when they control the damn House, what the hell are we even doing? The powder keg's lit, folks. Keep pretending it's just another cycle and watch how fast the whole thing blows when people finally stop buying the show.

It was astounding Io hear Ms. Rice say it all out loud. Now, in a way no surprise. She is very low IQ, as are Blinken and Sullivan, they ran the Biden era Whitehouse, on the enormous momentum that the first “Black” President developed and engendered over the 8 year grift of his regime. Obama is a mid wit himself, but he learned to sorta street fight from his buddy and ghost writer pal Bill “Bombs away” Ayers, Yep, there is a fire on the prairie, Bill; congrats you started it, now try to put it out. The problem is by outing the goals of revenge, concentration camps, struggle sessions, the fire may be coming to your house Bill, Barry, Susan, Jake, Tony. (Can anyone imagine being at a “local time” in a room full of normal people and seeing that cluster all standing around looking lost?) If jack Kennedy were at the party and introduced to Barry Obama, in about two minutes he would be looking over Barry’s head for someone interesting to talk to.

To the main point, if John Thune hopes to remain president of the Senate, he had better move his backside and get the SAVE Act on the President’s desk asap. Because, if there are not elections using the SAVE Act, then indeed there will be consequences, because at 50% of the USA legal voting population have had it. Odd, isn’t it, that something so simple, as a vote, is made complicated by a vindictive mummy who looks and acts like Yertle the Turtle, and his staff of unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats afraid of losing their prestige and maybe their jobs, stick their greasy thumbs in the American People’s eye.

The Obamaista’s can never envision the riots and mayhem going the other way, at them instead of at others. It’s a bad way to plan for the worst, by ignoring the fact that the worst can happen. But until you have suffered the worst, it is hard to fathom the worst that can happen. Ms. Rice, a bit of advice, FAFO, is not a good way to continue to go through life.

"Where have Brennan, Comey, and the other disgraced bagmen disappeared to?" ~ DJL

They are busy.

Would you like to examine the list of specific individuals who have been subpoenaed by this Florida grand jury?

AI reply ...

In the ongoing federal "grand conspiracy" investigation led by U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones in the Southern District of Florida, more than two dozen subpoenas have been issued to high-ranking former officials.

Individuals Specifically Subpoenaed

As of early 2026, the following individuals have been identified by various sources as recipients of grand jury subpoenas:

John Brennan: Former CIA Director. Reporting indicates he is a primary target of the probe, specifically regarding his role in the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference.

James Clapper: Former Director of National Intelligence.

Andrew McCabe: Former FBI Deputy Director.

Peter Strzok: Former FBI counterintelligence agent who helped lead the "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation.

Lisa Page: Former FBI attorney.

Other Noted Targets of the Investigation

While subpoenas for the following individuals have been widely discussed or anticipated by political allies and media outlets, official confirmation varies:

James Comey: Former FBI Director. While he is already facing separate charges in Northern Virginia, he has been frequently named as a subject of the broader Florida-based conspiracy probe.

Susan Rice: Former National Security Advisor. Her recent public comments have drawn intense scrutiny, and she is listed among the "adversaries" targeted by the administration's broader accountability efforts.

Hillary Clinton: Mentioned in internal DOJ discussions and political referrals related to the 2016 campaign.

Jack Smith: Former Special Counsel. Allies of the administration have called for investigations into his conduct during the classified documents probe.

Strategic Venue and Oversight

The grand jury is seated in Fort Pierce, Florida, a location strategically chosen because Mar-a-Lago resides within the district. The subpoenas were reportedly signed by Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Manolo Reboso, a move that bypassed traditional protocols involving line prosecutors.

I have read that Brennan and Ratcliffe are good friends. It’s very likely that it’s Brennan who’s still running the CIA. Ratcliffe seems like a very weak, principled, but weak, man. And Brennan is the consummate shyster.

IAN2364's avatar

FWIW

Public records and recent events do not support the idea that John Brennan and John Ratcliffe are friends, nor that Brennan still has any role in running the CIA. In fact, their relationship appears to be one of significant legal and political conflict.

Relationship and Current Status

Adversarial Relationship: Far from being "good friends," Ratcliffe and Brennan have been in a public feud for years. Brennan has accused Ratcliffe of "totally abusing" his authority and engaging in "blatant acts of politicization". Conversely, Ratcliffe has publicly accused Brennan of "railroading" intelligence processes to "screw Trump" during the 2016 election.

Criminal Referral: In July 2025, as Director of the CIA, Ratcliffe formally referred Brennan to the FBI for a criminal investigation. The referral involves allegations that Brennan lied to Congress and misled the intelligence community regarding the "Steele dossier" and the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

Leadership of the CIA: John Ratcliffe is the current Director of the CIA, having been confirmed by the Senate and sworn in on January 23, 2025. John Brennan has not held a position at the CIA since January 2017.

Recent Actions Under Ratcliffe

Since taking office in 2025, Ratcliffe has moved the agency in a direction often critical of the era in which Brennan served:

Retracting Reports: In February 2026, the CIA under Ratcliffe retracted 17 reports and revised others from the past decade, citing concerns over "bias".

COVID-19 Origins: Ratcliffe's CIA revised the official estimate on the origins of COVID-19 to favor the "lab leak" theory with low confidence.

Personnel Changes: Early in his 2025 tenure, Ratcliffe offered voluntary buyouts to CIA employees and complied with executive orders to identify recent hires for White House review.

While opinions on their characters vary based on political perspective, the objective evidence shows they are currently legal and political opponents rather than collaborators.

Give examples of CIA reports Ratcliffe's CIA might have reviewed for accuracy or bias

In February 2026, CIA Director John Ratcliffe ordered the retraction of 17 intelligence reports and the revision of two others from the previous decade, citing "political bias" and a failure to meet "tradecraft standards".

While the full list was not made public, the CIA released three specific examples of reports that were reviewed and subsequently retracted:

"Women Advancing White Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremist Radicalization and Recruitment" (October 6, 2021): This Biden-era report was criticized for focusing on "foreign political debates about gender roles". Officials argued it inappropriately suggested that women pursuing traditional motherhood roles could be a sign of radicalization.

"Middle East-North Africa: LGBT Activists Under Pressure" (January 14, 2015): This Obama-era assessment analyzed the challenges facing LGBT activists in the Islamic world. Ratcliffe’s CIA claimed it lacked objectivity and used biased sourcing from activist groups like the Human Rights Campaign.

"Worldwide: Pandemic-Related Contraceptive Shortfalls Threaten Economic Development" (July 8, 2020): Produced during the first Trump administration, this report analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on family planning. It was retracted for using "unobjective sources," specifically citing data from Planned Parenthood.

The agency also continues to review other high-profile legacy assessments, including the 2017 intelligence community assessment regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Here is the real truth: Republicans live in the real world, and reality isn't always pretty or ideologically pure.

By contrast, the Democrat Party and, frankly, most its voters (who have to be either brainwashed, stupid, ignorant, or actual enemies of the American Republic) live in a "pretend" world.

My evidence? Democrats pretend that:

-a society can be 50%-75% non-productive and not starve to death.

-the cure for crime is to not prosecute criminals, and to defund and hog-tie law enforcement.

-they oppose the U.S. engaging in war overseas, but are more than willing to start a violent war within the United States.

-stealing from people with more wealth than them is OK if it's criminals or the government doing the stealing.

-corruption in private business is a heinous crime, but corruption in the government from top to bottom is not only OK, but that the Democrats in charge should encourage and protect it from discovery or prosecution.

-Americans having "too many" children is a catastrophic threat to the environment, but allowing tens of millions of illegal aliens (including children) to invade the U.S. isn't.

-people breaking the law by intentionally illegally entering the U.S. didn't commit a serious crime.

-an unborn child isn't really a child and thus can be murdered without consequence.

-Socialism can work, when history shows that it has NEVER worked anywhere that it has been tried.

-it's not racism to segregate people by race, and to give one race favorable treatment over another.

-that the way to end racism is to constantly incite the races to hate each other.

-the best way to run a country is to use the government to steal wealth from productive people then hand it to non-productive people, and somehow think that will make the country more productive.

-hating and killing of the people who love freedom and the American Republic, then replacing them with people who hate freedom and hate America is the way to "save" America.

-working Americans are too stupid to think or govern for themselves and that only the Democrat elite is smart enough to tell them how to think, how to work, how to live, how to spend what money that the government doesn't take from them, and how their life really has no value to society beyond what the Democrat elite tells them to do.

THAT is the 2025 Democrat--living in a total fantasy, but a deadly one.

It's horrible. Of course, the only reason we knew about the Gaza horrors was because of TikTok posts FROM GAZA, which is why Trump and The Congress hastily snatched it from China and sold it off to arch-Zionist billionaire Larry Ellison. (They didn't mind when TikTok featured blue-haired troons convincing kids they were born in "the wrong body," but once we saw IDF goons shooting starving children lining up for food and tiny, lifeless hands sticking out of bombed out apartment complexes they knew they had to grab the kill switch.) Too late, the world knows now.

And Larry's son now runs CBS, and he put in Netanyahu acolyte Bari Weiss in charge the news division. Again, everyone except Scofield Bible bumpkins can see what that was about.

That voter I.D. and proof of citizenship is not already a mandate is a national embarrassment. Anyone against it is against this country; a seditionist. To those not believing in only citizens voting I say find another country to your liking. Observe, campaign and unelect any representative that would have non-residents voting in our elections. Without proof of citizenship a country like Somalia could stuff ballot boxes that one of theirs might attain a prominent political position, ( Ilhan Omar ? ).

The obvious ballot stuffing we saw in 2020, 2022 and 2024 is third world caliber and used for the same reason, to continue the power of parties or persons that are unpopular

Brownstone had a great article today concerning can we still call liberals “liberals”. Not according to the old definition. They are neo-facist totalitarians and explained why. I’m extremely interested in this subject as I was an active democrat until Covid. I got out, let sanity in and looked back into the toxic shithole that liberalism had become, which seems to be the only way the liberals will “get it”. IMO. We must absolutely not let them get back in. They are telling us what they will do. We have to get behind President Trump and yes, vote for every Republican in site no matter the whining and crabbing I hear everywhere on this platform, or I will know very clearly who to blame. Get over yourselves.

Roughly 80 million voters support Trump - mostly Republicans. Roughly 80 million voters do not support Trump - mostly Democrats. We can all fudge those numbers either way. Your suggestion to vilify the latter with a DTO designation is no better than Susan Rice's absurd threats that JHK cast shade upon in today's post.

That said, thank you for getting the label correct: Democrat party, not Democratic part. Democrats are not Democratic.

Lugh's avatar

Neither were the founding Fathers. It's mob rule ultimately, so I'd say the Democrats are Democratic.

David "JC" Penny's avatar

You errantly equate democratic and democracy. Democracy is majority (mob) rule. The term democratic can be defined as "Befitting the common people; -- opposed to aristocratic." The founders were democratic while abhorring democracy. The Democrat Party is not democratic and favors the State to determine the people's fate.

Lugh's avatar

I accept that, but not the right of the average person to vote. People have the right to be taken care of people smarter than themselves. Or in some cases, just less busy. Maybe someone (in my hypothetical system) who couldn't qualify to vote would be able to when they retire and have time to study the issues.

David "JC" Penny's avatar

I share your frustration with the ignorant masses. Yet, your theory of governance has been proven wrong over and over again: Easiest example is the Global Panic Attack of 2020 which was led by your "smarter" people. No thanx.

Government is inherently evil(*) and it both attracts evil people and makes good people evil. Any democratic system will select options/representatives that are wrong. But no more wrong than an autocratic system will, regardless the people involved.

Regardless the method, it should always favor less, not more government.

*Note. When I say "evil" I don't exactly mean any specific religious formulation of the concept, however, the seven deadly sins could be used as a framework. Government restricts freedom and that is "evil".

The criminal referrals from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) that form the basis for the Florida grand jury subpoenas are primarily centered on the alleged "politicization" and "manufacturing" of intelligence during the 2016 election and the subsequent transition.

The current ODNI, led by Tulsi Gabbard, and recent CIA leadership under John Ratcliffe, have issued several formal referrals to the Department of Justice (DOJ) citing the following specific allegations:

1. Manipulation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA)

The most significant referral alleges that top Obama administration officials—including John Brennan and James Clapper—knowingly "manufactured" the narrative that Vladimir Putin intervened in the 2016 election to benefit Donald Trump.

Suppression of Intelligence: Referrals claim officials suppressed intelligence showing that Russia "lacked the intent and capability" to impact the election and that an internal December 2016 report explicitly stated Russia "did not impact" the results.

"Atypical" Process: The drafting of the ICA is described in referrals as a "corrupt" and "markedly unconventional" process that rushed conclusions to "screw Trump".

Inclusion of the Steele Dossier: Allegations suggest Brennan pushed to include the "discredited" anti-Trump dossier in the assessment while knowing it was based on "internet rumor".

2. False Statements to Congress

Multiple referrals target officials for allegedly lying under oath about their roles in the Russia investigation.

John Brennan: Specifically referred by the House Judiciary Committee and ODNI for "knowingly making false statements" regarding the use of the Steele dossier and his involvement in the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

James Comey: Also under investigation following a referral from CIA Director John Ratcliffe

for potential false statements and wrongdoing related to "Crossfire Hurricane".

3. "Unmasking" and Leaking Classified Information

Referrals involve the alleged misuse of surveillance data to target the Trump transition team, often linked to Susan Rice.

Espionage Act Violations: Critics and referrals allege that the "unmasking" of U.S. citizens in intelligence reports was done for political purposes rather than national security, leading to illegal leaks of classified information to the media.

Targeting Intelligence Professionals: ODNI has also referred specific intelligence community professionals for prosecution over alleged leaks to the Washington Post and New York Times.

4. "Treasonous Conspiracy"

DNI Gabbard has publicly characterized the declassified documents as evidence of a "treasonous conspiracy" by top Obama officials to undermine a sitting president. This broad allegation is intended to bypass standard five-year statutes of limitations, as treason has no such limit.

IAN2364's avatar

The following declassified materials have been highlighted by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) as the "smoking guns" behind the current federal subpoenas in Florida. These documents are being used to support the theory that the intelligence community was "weaponized" for political purposes.

1. The Brennan Briefing Notes (July 2016)

One of the most cited documents is a set of handwritten notes by then-CIA Director John Brennan.

The Content: The notes summarize a briefing Brennan gave to President Obama regarding intelligence that Hillary Clinton had allegedly approved a plan to stir up a scandal against Donald Trump by tying him to Putin and the DNC hack.

The Referral’s Argument: DNI Gabbard and others argue these notes prove the CIA knew the Russia-collusion narrative was a "Clinton campaign fabrication" yet proceeded to investigate Trump anyway, rather than investigating the source of the alleged "smear."

2. The CIA "Referral Memo" (September 2016)

In September 2016, the CIA sent a formal investigative referral to James Comey and Peter Strzok at the FBI.

The Content: The memo detailed the "Clinton Plan" intelligence mentioned in Brennan’s notes.

The Referral’s Argument: Prosecutors are looking into why the FBI seemingly ignored this referral or failed to disclose it to the FISA court when seeking surveillance warrants on Trump campaign associates like Carter Page.

3. Internal Emails Regarding the 2017 ICA

Declassified emails between analysts at the CIA, FBI, and NSA from late 2016 and early 2017 show internal friction over the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA).

The "Low Confidence" Dispute: Some emails show that while the CIA and FBI had "high confidence" that Russia specifically wanted to help Trump, the NSA (led by Admiral Mike Rogers) held only "moderate confidence."

The Referral’s Argument: Prosecutors allege that top-level officials pressured analysts to "harden" their conclusions and exclude dissenting intelligence that suggested Russia’s primary goal was simply to sow general chaos rather than favor a specific candidate.

4. Susan Rice’s "Note to Self" (January 20, 2017)

On her final day in office, Susan Rice sent herself an email documenting a January 5th meeting in the Oval Office with President Obama, James Comey, and Joe Biden.

The Content: Rice wrote that Obama wanted the Russia investigation handled "by the book."

The Referral’s Argument: Critics characterize this email as an "ex post facto" attempt to create a legal defense. Investigators are questioning the timing of the email (sent minutes before the inauguration) and whether it was intended to provide "cover" for the continued investigation of the incoming administration.

5. Text Messages: "The Insurance Policy"

The widely publicized text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page remain a focal point.

The Content: Most notably the August 2016 "insurance policy" text and the "we’ll stop [Trump]" message.

The Referral’s Argument: These are being presented to the Florida grand jury as evidence of "animus" and "premeditation," supporting the charge of a Conspiracy Against Rights (18 U.S.C. § 241) by showing the investigators were not impartial.

What happens next?

The Florida grand jury is reportedly looking for evidence that these documents were intentionally withheld from Congress or used to mislead federal courts.

IAN2364's avatar

Lawyers for the former officials are mounting a multi-front defense that characterizes the Florida-based investigation as a politically motivated attempt to criminalize standard national security and law enforcement actions.

Core Legal Strategies and Defenses

Vindictive and Selective Prosecution: Defense teams, particularly for James Comey, argue the cases are "vindictive retribution" driven by President Trump’s personal animus. They cite the President's repeated public demands for their prosecution as evidence that the Department of Justice is acting as a "stalking horse" for political revenge.

Challenges to Prosecutorial Authority: A primary defense for Comey and others has been challenging the legality of interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s appointment. In November 2025, a federal judge dismissed Comey's initial indictment on these grounds, ruling Halligan lacked the lawful authority to bring the case.

"Judge Shopping" and Venue Objections: Attorneys for John Brennan have filed motions with the Chief Judge of the Southern District of Florida to block the DOJ from "steering" the case to Judge Aileen Cannon. They argue the prosecution is engaging in "forum shopping" to ensure the case is heard by a judge perceived as favorable to the administration.

Substantive Rebuttal of Declassified Evidence:

The "Literally True" Defense: Regarding allegations of perjury, Comey’s lawyers argue his 2020 congressional testimony was "literally true" and that the questions asked by Senator Ted Cruz were "fundamentally ambiguous".

Procedural Regularity: In response to the Susan Rice "note to self," defenders argue the email accurately reflects a meeting where the outgoing president explicitly instructed officials to handle investigations "by the book," serving as evidence of proper conduct rather than a cover-up.

Grand Jury Irregularities: Defense teams have alleged serious misconduct during grand jury proceedings, including keeping jurors late to pressure them into an indictment and potentially sharing privileged attorney-client communications with the panel.

Status of the Cases

While James Comey’s initial indictment was dismissed in late 2025, the DOJ filed an appeal in February 2026 and has signaled it may seek a new indictment. John Brennan remains a "target" of the Florida grand jury, with his legal team proactively seeking to recuse Judge Cannon from any future proceedings.

IAN2364's avatar

Judicial activity in Florida and the Eastern District of Virginia has become a central battleground for these "grand conspiracy" cases. Rulings have so far focused on the legality of the prosecutors' appointments and the "forum shopping" of cases to specific judges.

Key Judicial Rulings and Recent Actions

Dismissal of Indictments Due to "Unlawful Appointments":

In November 2025, a federal judge dismissed indictments against James Comey and Letitia James, ruling that interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan had been unconstitutionally appointed to her role. The court found that because Halligan was not Senate-confirmed and was appointed after career prosecutors declined to charge the cases, her authority to secure the indictments was invalid. The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a consolidated appeal to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in January 2026 to revive these charges.

Blocking of Special Counsel Reports (February 23, 2026):

In a significant ruling today, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon permanently barred the DOJ from releasing Special Counsel Jack Smith's final report on the classified documents investigation. Judge Cannon characterized the report as a "brazen stratagem" to disseminate discovery material from a case she had already dismissed as unconstitutional. She emphasized that the defendants "still enjoy the presumption of innocence" and that releasing the report would "contravene basic notions of fairness".

Challenge to "Judge Shopping" in Fort Pierce:

Lawyers for John Brennan filed an extraordinary request with Chief Judge Cecilia Altonaga of the Southern District of Florida in late December 2025. They accused Florida U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones of "manipulation" by attempting to steer the grand jury to the Fort Pierce division, where Judge Cannon is the only sitting trial judge. Brennan's team is seeking to ensure that any potential indictment is assigned through "neutral and impartial processes" rather than what they term "self-interested maneuvering".

Appellate Court Oversight on Delays:

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals recently ordered Judge Cannon to stop "undue delay" in resolving motions related to the public release of investigative records. While the court allowed her a 60-day window to act, transparency groups like American Oversight have argued her continued suppression of documents "undermines both accountability and the rule of law".

Current Status of the Florida Grand Jury

While Judge Cannon has issued several rulings protective of the current administration's interests, the grand jury in Fort Pierce remains active. Brennan

and other former officials remain designated as "targets," though no new indictments have been unsealed since the dismissal of the Virginia cases.

IAN2364's avatar

While the Virginia cases primarily focused on individual conduct and specific statements, the Florida investigation is significantly more ambitious, seeking to link the actions of various Obama-era officials into a single, overarching criminal enterprise.

Comparison of Criminal Charges

Feature - Dismissed Virginia Cases (Comey/James) // Active Florida Grand Jury (Brennan/Rice/Clapper)

Primary Statute - 18 U.S.C. § 1001 (False Statements) // 18 U.S.C. § 241 (Conspiracy Against Rights)

Scope - Individual: Focused on specific lies allegedly told during congressional testimony or to the OIG. // Systemic: Focused on a "multifaceted conspiracy" to weaponize the IC against a political candidate.

Secondary Charges - 18 U.S.C. § 1512 (Obstruction of Justice) // 18 U.S.C. § 2381 (Treason/Sedition)

The "Telegraph" - Centered on specific events like the 2020 Senate testimony. // Centered on the "long game"—from the 2016 "Clinton Plan" to the 2017 transition.

Legal Strategy - Narrowly tailored to avoid statute of limitation issues. // Broadly defined to argue the "conspiracy" continued into recent years, bypassing limits.

The "Treason" Distinction

The inclusion of Sedition and Treason in the Florida investigation—as hinted by DNI Tulsi Gabbard's recent public statements—is a major departure from the Virginia approach.

Virginia: Focused on "process crimes" (lying to investigators).

Florida: Investigating the "substantive crimes" of attempting to overthrow the government. This aligns with your initial assessment that Susan Rice and others are viewed as being part of a "decade-long" effort to impede the constitutional functions of the Presidency.

Status of the "Revenge" Narrative

Prosecutors in Florida are reportedly using Susan Rice’s recent podcast comments as evidence of "corrupt intent." They argue that her "accountability agenda" and warnings to corporations are not policy positions, but rather proof that she and her colleagues have always viewed the legal system as a tool for political retribution—the very "Conspiracy Against Rights" they are now being investigated for.

IAN2364's avatar

In the Southern District of Florida investigation, prosecutors are using the "insurance policy" text exchange between Peter Strzok

and Lisa Page as central evidence for a charge of Conspiracy Against Rights (18 U.S.C. § 241).

The "Insurance Policy" as Evidence of Conspiracy

The government's theory, presented to the Florida grand jury, focuses on a specific text from August 15, 2016, where Strzok wrote: "I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office—that there’s no way [Trump] gets elected—but I’m afraid we can’t take that risk. It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40..."

Prosecutors are framing this not as a private conversation, but as evidence of a premeditated plan:

Evidence of "Animus": The DOJ argues the texts demonstrate a deep-seated personal and political bias that motivated the officials to use their federal authority to "injure" or "oppress" the target's right to a fair election and transition.

The "Andy’s Office" Meeting: The mention of a "path" discussed in "Andy's office" (referring to then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe) is being used to allege that the conspiracy reached the highest levels of the FBI leadership.

Substantive Overt Acts: Under § 241, prosecutors do not need to prove a specific physical act of violence. Instead, they are arguing that the initiation of the "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation itself was the "overt act" taken to "hinder or prevent" the free exercise of constitutional rights.

The Defense Rebuttal

Attorneys for Strzok and Page have consistently provided a different interpretation of these messages:

The "Analogy" Defense: Page testified to Congress that the "insurance policy" was an analogy for the speed and intensity of the investigation. The argument was that if Trump won, the counterintelligence concerns would become an immediate national security crisis, so they could not "take the risk" of a slow-paced probe.

Inspector General Findings: Defense teams point to the 2019 DOJ Inspector General report, which found no documentary or testimonial evidence that the "insurance policy" text—or any other biased messages—actually influenced the official actions taken during the investigation.

First Amendment Claims: Strzok's legal team recently argued in a First Amendment lawsuit that his firing was retaliatory and that his private opinions on a government-issued phone were protected speech, though a federal judge dismissed these claims in September 2025.

Legal Significance of 18 U.S.C. § 241

By utilizing § 241, the Florida grand jury is exploring a "novel application" of a civil-rights-era law. This statute is being tested to see if it can encompass "intellectual or procedural" conspiracies by government officials to interfere with a political opponent's rights.
