I'm a church-going Irish Catholic and I think I know what you mean. From my experience, many, perhaps most, of the priests ordained for 30 or so years after Vatican II are/were atheists. If they believed in anything, it certainly wasn't Catholic doctrine. They are some flavor of Marxist and/or were hiding from the draft and/or their own closeted homosexuality. This appears to have ended about ten years ago, or so. Most of the young priests I know are far more conservative and traditional. It's a very good sign.

I think they draw the line at same-sex marriage etc. but I am grateful it exists because I had to flee from a woke Episcopal parish in my own village. This time of year the possibility of overwhelming emergency services is a genuine consideration. This has unintended consequences. Those genuinely in need of such services with zero participation in protest activity will be adversely impacted by the sudden influx of hypothermic individuals which will result in delayed attention and increased morbidity and mortality among this group.
There is a corollary in emergency medicine: ' you're not dead until you're warm and dead' which applies to hypothermia. I'm a church-going Irish Catholic and I think I know what you mean. From my experience, many, perhaps most, of the priests ordained for 30 or so years after Vatican II are/were atheists. If they believed in anything, it certainly wasn't Catholic doctrine. They are some flavor of Marxist and/or were hiding from the draft and/or their own closeted homosexuality. This appears to have ended about ten years ago, or so. Most of the young priests I know are far more conservative and traditional. It's a very good sign.

Those genuinely in need of such services with zero participation in protest activity will be adversely impacted by the sudden influx of hypothermic individuals which will result in delayed attention and increased morbidity and mortality among this group.
There is a corollary in emergency medicine: ' you're not dead until you're warm and dead' which applies to hypothermia. Without going into the particulars of how this works and its history, with the number of protesters being significantly large, the available resources for everyone are overwhelmed.
I just don't think it is a well-advised tactic for the climate this time of year, particularly when there are alternatives applicable with similar results, ie. dispersal of the crowds.
