It's certainly necessary for a nation to have collective hopes, dreams, and holiday wishes. But in this time of national anxiety over a looming war, it would be a good thing if we Americans could sort out our wishes from reality, our delusions from the truth.
      In case you haven't noticed, life in the United States is not like the scene pictured above.  Where are our beloved automobiles?
